Distance Learning Course Welding Engineers(IWE) and Welding Technologists (IWT) Part 1

The multimedia based training program developed by SLV Duisburg is a distance learning course designed to self-study the first part of the International Welding Engineer/Technologist course according to IIW Guideline IAB-252-r1-11. The course is an approved alternative to conventional classroom training and entitles to participation in the examination part 1.

Flexible Learning

You have the chance to choose your individual time to learn. For companies, the use of a training program for the evenings or at the weekend means less loss of working hours and saves cost. Further, there are no travel expenses, cost for journeys or stays overnight as well as other expenses. You need when learning 2 hours a day and 5 days a week, i.e. approx. 10 weeks to study all training materials in order to apply for participation in the examination.

An important advantage:
In case the participant already has certain knowledge concerning the single lessons those may be learned in shorter time or even be skipped.

Discover the New Dimension of Learning

This course makes use of the multimedia based possibilities of a PC. In addition to the text and graphical presentation videos and three dimensional animations are applied. Instead of long descriptions, e.g. of the structure of a welding torch, an interactive animation offers step by step a realistic and detailed presentation of the technical processes.

Contents of the training program CBT-IWE/IWT Part 1

The interactive training program comprises the fundamentals of the training for qualification to be a welding engineer / technologist in accordance with IIW Guideline IAB-252-07.

The section process technology deals with different welding methods. Material technology includes material science, metallography and the classification of steels. The section design includes the computation of forces and tensions and the presentation of welds. Fundamental knowledge of those sections is the basis for the attendance of parts 2 and 3 of the course.

Structure and methods

The program can even be used without specific PC knowledge. It does not take long preceding times to become familiar with the subject. You select one of the three main sections from a start menu. Thus, you gain access to an overview of the several lessons. The lessons may be chosen at will. The understanding is supported by text, sound, images, video films and interactive animations. By using the media mentioned the contents are given close to practice with the effect that the motivation to learn remains high. A notebook function, a full text search, bookmarks, history as well as a help function are integrated in the program.

At the end of each chapter you find a knowledge test with subsequent grading. Further, a general catalogue of questions and homework help to prepare for the examination.
